The Herschel “Red” and Mary B. Edwards Scholarship Award

This award is presented to a rising junior or senior student-athlete who has at least a 3.0 GPA. This award is presented annually to a student-athlete who is a solid contributor to his or her team, has a go-the-extra-mile work ethic, and is always a team player.

Matthew Dugan, swimming
Amanda Siegrist, volleyball

Matthew Dugan was a two-time BGMC champion in 2007. While carrying a 4.00 GPA, Dugan has twice been named an All-BGMC performer. He set one school record this year. Outside of the pool, he is the Co-Chair for the Special Olympics Swimming venue (2007). A member of Phi Eta Sigma, he is an active UCAN volunteer who has volunteered 80 hours at CMC Union Hospital in both the Rehabilitation Department and the Emergency Room. He is also a Red Cross Bloodmobile Volunteer and a Relay for Life Volunteer. Amanda Siegrist helped the Bulldogs to a 25-8 overall record and a 12-2 conference mark. Wingate earned a bid to the 2006 NCAA Regional tournament and also captured the SAC regular season and tournament championships. The junior libero had 14 service aces and a team-high 326 digs while playing in 90 games for the Bulldogs this season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mandi Chester  – Chester was named SAC Scholar Athlete for softball. Chester has a 3.64 GPA, majoring in Mathematics and Education. She is a volunteer tutor in her math classes. Chester hit .380 this season for the Bulldogs. She was third in the conference in RBI per game, trailing two of her teammates.

Frank Marino – Team captain for the Bulldogs in 2005, Marino had 25 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for losses in 2005. He is a former Marine who has started for the Bulldogs throughout his career. Marino holds a 3.96 GPA in Finance.
