Hurni spent four seasons as assistant baseball coach and game management supervisor at Davidson College. He was responsible for assisting in recruiting efforts and the strength and development of the baseball team.

Prior to his time at Davidson, Hurni worked two seasons as assistant baseball coach at Anderson University (his alma mater) in Anderson, Indiana. He was the team instructor for the hitters, infielders and base runners, while serving as third base coach.
