Zak
Laws had a team-high eight saves in 2007. His eight
saves placed him 22nd on the NCAA Division II charts.
Laws had a 4.25 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings
pitched. In SAC play he had a 1.80 ERA with four saves
in 11 appearances.
Laws toed the rubber in 17 games for the Bulldogs as a
freshman, including 10 starts. He had a 1-5 overall
record with a 5.61 ERA. In four appearances in night
games last season, Laws had a 3.14 ERA in 14 1/3
innings. In the summer of 2006, Laws pitched
29.1
innings for the Silver Spring-Takoma (Md.) Thunderbolts.
He led the team with 16 appearances and compiled a 3.99
ERA (third-best on team). The ‘Bolts won the league’s
championship tournament.
At
Hibriten High School, Laws won the
team MVP as a senior. He was the Gatorade Player of the
Year for his high school. A top-notch student, Laws was
ranked in the top five of his graduating class at
Hibriten. As a senior, he had a record of 6-5 overall
with an impressive 2.28 ERA on the mound. He saw many
important innings for Caldwell County’s American Legion
team. Zak is the son of Randy and Gwin Laws.
