On October 1st and 2nd, the Wingate University Women’s Golf team traveled to the mountains of Greeneville, Tennessee to play in the Tusculum Fall Classic. After the first day at Link Hills Country Club, the Bulldogs led the tournament by seven strokes. Shannon Smith, Ashley Denton and I all shot 79 on the first day, while Andrea Velasquez carded an 82 and Kacie Braxton posted an 85.
The Tusculum Fall Classic is the only first semester tournament when the men’s team and the women’s team travel together. It was so much fun to spend tournament nights with both teams. The support both teams gave the other (team) was very evident throughout the two days.
The Bulldogs had much confidence when the second day began (at Tusculum). We wanted to put a first place finish in the books. We played hard to get it done. The Wingate women’s golf team finished the tournament with a total of 641 to win the tournament. We were all smiles in our pink bulldog shirts. I think we realized during this tournament that we are all capable of competing well in the SAC.
