After securing a first-place finish in Greeneville, Tenn. at the Tusculum Fall Classic (Oct. 1-2), the Bulldogs were fired up! Our next event was the Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate at the River Hills Golf Club. River Hills has been nominated as the best new course by Golf Digest and Top 50 in the Southeast by Golf Week.

Needless to say, the course was in great shape. The 5879-yard par 72 presented a good test of golf for each team. Following the conclusion of the first round, Wingate was tied for fifth place with a 325. All total, 18 teams and 87 student-athletes competed in this event.

Lenoir-Rhyne hosted a dinner for every participating team at the House of Blues. This was really a unique, yet fun experience to connect with players and coaches while enjoying great food and lively entertainment. Every year, all of the freshmen and newcomers have to sing karaoke. This was much fun as well.

The second day (at River Hills) we had a different strategic mind-set on several different holes hoping to cut back a few shots; however, the wet conditions did not allow us to perform as well as we had hoped. We finished with a 330 (Tuesday); we placed seventh (655) out of 18 teams.

We beat everyone in the South Atlantic Conference with the exception of Tusculum (they edged us out by five strokes). The L-R/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate will help to better prepare us for the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury next week (Oct. 15-16). Now that we are recognizing some of our strengths and weakness as a team, I feel as if the upcoming season is going to be very successful one for the Bulldogs.
