Hey! My name is Chelsea Cancelliere and I’m a sophomore defensive specialist for the Bulldog volleyball team. It’s an honor to be a part of such a hard-working group of girls. It’s amazing that we get along so well on and off the court.
Right now, we have an impressive record of 24-1 overall. We are undefeated in the SAC! We returned to campus from a long weekend in Tennessee and North Carolina, as we battled three different teams: Tusculum, Mars Hill and Brevard.
We left campus early on Friday morning (Oct. 12) to play our match that night versus Tusculum. We knew that this would be a tough battle, since we went five games with them earlier in the season (at Wingate). We had a week of practice to prepare specifically for them, so we were confident and determined.
When we finally made it…after getting lost for a while (thanks for directing traffic Ryan Brown), we were ready for the challenge. We came out strong and took the first game. This was big for us. We knew that Tusculum wouldn’t roll over.
We ended up taking the match to a fifth game, after Coach called us to the sideline to watch them serve the fourth game’s final point into the court. We had lost game four, but we were confident that we would dominate game five. We played excellent volleyball in game five; as a result, we received one of our best victories yet!
On Saturday morning, we journeyed to Mars Hill and Brevard. We won both matches Saturday. We tried different line-ups during the (Saturday) games. It is really exciting that we can still win important conference matches with different groups of girls on the floor.
We knew going into this weekend that it would take much drive and focus to take on three teams in two days; however, we were up for the challenge and proved it by coming out of the weekend with three wins.
We’re looking forward to keeping the pressure on our upcoming opponents, especially since we have some important home games in the near future! Right now, we are ranked number four in the South Region. Our two games this week are against teams ranked in the top 10 in the region.
Come out and support the team on Wednesday (Oct. 17) when we play USC Aiken! This should be an exciting match since they are our only loss so far this season. Also, we take on Catawba this Friday (Oct. 19)! Be there!
P.S. Congratulations Coach Collier on your 700th career win!
