Middle Blocker

Hi, my name is Stormi Gale. I am a freshman middle blocker from Richmond, Texas. For those of you that don’t know me, I know you’re thinking: Stormi, that’s a cool nickname…what’s your real name? Stormi is my real name…on my birth certificate and everything. Stormi Elizabeth Gale. Now that we have that cleared up…
Let’s talk about Wingate University Volleyball!
This past week was a really important one for our team. On Thursday, we had our only practice to prepare for Catawba. Even though we were settling down from our big 3-0 win over USC Aiken Wednesday (Oct. 17), we managed to pull it together and work really hard. We were very ready for our big match Friday night.
Since it was Student Government Association (SGA) game day, we had tons of fans at our game. It was great to feel so much support from our school! Although it wasn’t our best play, we definitely got the job done and beat them (Catawba) in three games. This was a significant win for us because not only did it bring our record to 26-1, but also we continued to prove that we are the best team in the South Atlantic Conference.
I absolutely love it here at Wingate! I definitely wouldn’t change my decision to come here for anything! When I came on my visit, I was really nervous and shy and barely said two words the whole time I was here! After I left, the team noted me as the quiet recruit. These girls are so easy to get along with…now they can’t ever get me to be quiet! I have never met such a fun group of girls!
I think I’ll give you a little bit of the scoop on my life at Wingate outside of volleyball. My best friend from Texas, Kelsey, flew in to see me this weekend. We had so much fun! She even got to be there for the first time the freshmen EVER got to go to a Wingate football game. She is the first person from home I have seen since August! But even though my parents can’t come to watch me play, they still get to listen to all of the games on the Internet (Red Zone Media), so that’s really awesome.
We play Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday at home. Our season is flying by! We don’t have that many games left! I hope to see you in Cuddy Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday; we will definitely make it a fun game to watch!
