Hey there! I’m Emily Odio and I’m currently a red shirt freshman setter on the Wingate volleyball team. This past week has been an exciting and interesting one to say the least! We had an intense and focused week of practice working towards beating one of our top rivals, Catawba. Along with practice this week, a few of the girls including myself were also busy with Greek Recruitment! It was a busy, but awesome week!
On Friday, we traveled to Catawba for one of our biggest matches of the season. We won 3-0 and had some great support from family and friends! The win wasn’t the only adventurous thing that night. After our amazing win, we went to grab what we thought would be “fast food,” but it definitely ended up being one of the longest post-game meals we have had yet! Instead of separating our orders, we had endless bags of chicken nuggets, fries and burgers that were spread out among the tables for us to grab. Needless to say, it was chaos!
The next day, we had lunch as a team in the cafeteria and then traveled to St. Andrews Presbyterian College for a tri-match. We won both games that day and improved our overall record to 16-1. Everyone got a chance to play and played amazing! We were done around 6 p.m. and were excited to be able to get back to school early! Our optimism was cut short when our bus broke down near Rockingham.
What at first seemed like a misfortunate opportunity quickly turned into a blessing in disguise. The team had some great bonding time and we had so much fun! Before we knew it, Mr. Poston, our Athletic Director, and Campus Security came to our rescue. We were back to campus in no time!
It was an exciting weekend and we had some amazing times as a team! We will be working hard in practice Monday night towards winning another big match on Tuesday! We play at Lenoir-Rhyne in a South Atlantic Conference match! Wish us luck!!
