Hi! My name is Amanda Siegrist and I am a senior libero on the Wingate University volleyball team. On Saturday, we had our first tournament at Lenoir-Rhyne College. After a 7:30 a.m. departure, we were scheduled to play St. Andrews Presbyterian College first. We started the day off strong, winning 3-0 in a hard-working match. Our goal as the day went on was to continue to get better and continue to build chemistry as a team.
Our next match that afternoon was against Pfeiffer University. In spite of being hot and tired, we came out on top with a 3-1 win. We took a break for lunch and enjoyed a little rest before our final match.
Our last match of the day was with Queens University of Charlotte. We definitely ended the day well with a 3-0 victory. For this game, some of our new freshman classmates took a fan bus out to the game as part of their orientation week. Our former teammate Rebecca Brezovec was their orientation leader for the trip, so it was great to see their support!
They were really awesome fans and made it much fun to play, especially at an away game! It was great to get out there as a team and show all the hard work that we put in during preseason. Coach Collier played several different line-ups and players throughout the day and it was rewarding to see how everyone stepped up.
We have a great group of players and much depth to our team. I know that our team is looking forward to getting back into our own arena and working at becoming the best team we can! This weekend is our first home tournament and we are excited to be on our home court with our home fans! Hope to see you there!
