Tony Tofanelli enters his third season with the Wingate University coaching staff. The 2007 season marks his first campaign as a full-time coach. “Tony Tofanelli has been with our program since the day our staff arrived,” Wingate head coach Joe Reich said. “He is ready for additional responsibilities.” Tofanelli works with the Bulldog defensive line. The 2006 season was a good one for the Bulldog D-Line. In 2006, senior defensive end Frank Marino was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® football first team (college division), selected by CoSIDA. Junior defensive lineman Kenwin Cummings was named to three different All-Region teams and the All-South Atlantic Conference team. A two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III selection by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), Tofanelli earned the Charlotte Touchdown Club Scholarship in the spring of 2004. In addition, he made the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll every semester. Tofanelli was named first team All-South Atlantic Conference as a long snapper in 2004. In addition, he was a starter for the Bulldogs on the defensive line. As a senior, Tofanelli recorded 33 tackles (23 solo), three tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two sacks. In 2003, he had 33 tackles (23 solo), six sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. Tofanelli played football for coach Mike Earwood at Starrs Mill High School, earning All-County, All-Region and All-State honors in football.
