Jules Burkett participated in football and track at Irmo High School. His football coach was Bob Hanna. Burkett won the Coaches Award in football. Irmo was a two-time lower state and regional champion in football during his tenure. As a senior, Burkett was second on the team in receiving yards. He caught four TD passes his final season. His dad (JC) played football at Mars Hill.
