Assistant Coach Gary Hoilett

Gary Hoilett brings a wealth of experience to his position as assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at Wingate University. Since 1997, Hoilett has been the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Charlotte Catholic High School.

His accomplishments at CCHS could fill several scrapbooks. His teams have played in nine NCHSAA state finals, winning five state championships. For his efforts, Hoilett was named N.C. Coach of the Year three times (twice for his women, once for men).

Numerous Cougars have signed college scholarships, including current Bulldog Lee Minton and former Wingate letterman Kevin Benfield. In addition to his duties at Charlotte Catholic, Hoilett has served 11 years as a staff coach for the Charlotte United Futbol Club (1996-2007). He was director of coaching for women from 2003 until 2006.

Currently, Hoilett is the South Charlotte Soccer Association Director of Coaching. He is concentrating his efforts on the men’s and women’s U15 through U18 programs. Hoilett is excited about the challenges ahead at Wingate University.

“I am looking forward to this opportunity,” Hoilett said. “I have known Gary Hamill for a few years. He has a great mind for the game. His integrity is unmatched. This is an atmosphere where I want to be.”
