2007: Courtney Wagner
started games at four different positions for the Bulldogs in 2007. Wagner
started 30 games at catcher, 22 games at first base, three games at third
and two games as the designated player. At the dish, she hit .319 with two
home runs, 32 RBI, 12 doubles and 20 runs scored. She had 16 multiple-hit
games and eight multiple-RBI games. She was six-for-12 in bases loaded
situations, driving in eight runs.
2006:
Wagner started 55 games for the Bulldogs in 2006. A designated player, she
hit .308 with 22 runs and 35 RBI. In 156 at-bats, she struck out only six
times. She has 11 multiple hit games and 10 multiple RBI games. Wagner
played a crucial role in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 Food Lion SAC tournament
championship game victory over Lenoir-Rhyne, moving to third base to help
lead the Bulldogs to the title. She was one of six Bulldogs to earn 2006
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III softball second team
honors. Off the field, Wagner is a member of Leadership Fellows, Phi Eta
Sigma and the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was named to the SAC
Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the second year in a row.
2005:
Wagner started 33 games for the Bulldogs during her first season in the
blue-and-gold. She hit .216 with six doubles, one home run and 17 RBI. In
her second game as a Bulldog, she was three-for-four with two doubles and
three RBI in a home win over Pfeiffer (Feb. 12, 2005). Wagner hit .429
(three-for-seven) with runners on third base and less than two outs.
PERSONAL:
Courtney is the daughter of Cory Wagner and Susan Wagner.
Wagner was a catcher/third baseman for Myrtle Beach High School in Myrtle
Beach, S.C. She led the team in hitting (.415), home runs (six) and RBI
(27). Her senior year, Courtney was The Sun News Toast of the Coast Player
of the Year and a S.C. High School Sports Report All-State performer. She
was also named to the All-Region team. In tennis, Wagner was The Sun News
Toast of the Coast Player of the Year and State Champion four times each.
She was 20-0 in singles play her senior year. A Who’s Who honoree, Wagner
was one of 30 softball players picked to represent the USA in an
international tournament in Australia during the summer of 2003. Her team
finished second in the Hunter Sports Festival in Nelson’s Bay. She is
majoring in Communications. |
