April Spotlight: Early Certification
The NCAA recently passed legislation that allow early academic
certification through the NCAA Eligibility Center for student-athletes
entering during and after the Fall of 2008. In order to qualify for early
certification there are a few requirements the student-athlete must meet.
Those requirements are listed below.
After 6 semesters the student-athlete must have:
§
A minimum combined score on the SAT verbal and math sections
of 1000 or a minimum sum score on the ACT of 85
§
A core course GPA of 3.0 or higher in a minimum of 12 core
courses
Remember: In order to receive an early
certification the prospective student-athlete must have his or her
guidance counselor send transcripts from the PSA’s first six semesters of
high school to the Clearinghouse. Also note that the Clearinghouse must
have a copy of the PSA’s test scores which must be sent directly from the
testing agency.
Note: The NCAA Clearinghouse would still like for all student-athlete
to send their final transcripts in even if they have already received an
early certification.
