May Spotlight: NCAA Eligibility Center Basics
The NCAA Eligibility Center performs two
different types of certifications. Certification number one is the
academic certification. Certification number two is the
amateurism certification.
How does a PSA receive an academic certification?
§
Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
§
Have all high school transcripts sent to NCAA
Eligibility Center
§
Have SAT/ACT scores sent from the College Board to the
Eligibility Center
How does a PSA receive an amateurism
certification?
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
- The PSA should choose the correct sport for which
they want a certification
- Answer all amateurism questions
- Request an amateurism certification by signing the
10.1 statement online
Who must receive an academic certification?
- All incoming freshmen
- Any 4-year transfer that is transferring in less
than 24 hours
- Academic certification is strongly suggested for
JUCO transfers who have not graduated from a two-year college
Who must receive an amateurism certification?
- Any PSA/SA who will attend a Division I or II
institution full time for the first time (i.e. freshmen, JUCO
transfers, Division III transfers)
What to look for on your IRL: The
institutional request list from the NCAA Eligibility Center will be placed
in your mailbox every Friday. It is important to know for what to look.
§
“Final = Y” or “Final = N” means that the PSA has received a
final academic certification of yes or no.
§
“Final Certified” under amateurism decision means the PSA’s
amateurism status has been certified.
§
Often times when the PSA has not received a final academic
certification it is due to the fact that they have not sent in the
required information. The missing information is notated by the codes to
the right of the PSA’s name. Each coach has received a list of those
codes and their meanings.
§
If a PSA’s amateurism decision is noted as “Under Review”
that PSA should check his/her email address that they provided the
Eligibility Center with on a regular basis. Often times if the
Eligibility Center has questions for a PSA they will contact them through
email.
