November Spotlight: National Letter of Intent
With the early signing period occurring this month it is important to
remember these regulations pertaining to the signing of the National
Letter of Intent by a prospective student-athlete.
1) The
National Letter of Intent (NLI) must be accompanied by an offer of
athletics aid applicable for one full academic year.
2) In
order for high school or preparatory school prospective student-athlete to
sign a National Letter of Intent he or she must be registered with the
NCAA Eligibility Center (formally called the NCAA Clearinghouse).
3) A
PSA who is not yet 21 must have a parents/legal guardian cosigner to the
NLI.
4) The
NLI must be filed in the conference office no later than 21 days after the
final signature.
5) If
the PSA and their parent/legal guardian fail to sign the NLI within 14
days of the date of issuance the NLI will be invalid.
6) A
PSA can return signed copies of the grant-in-aid and NLI to the
institution by fax or e-mail. Additionally, the PSA should send the hard
copy of the NLI and grant-in-aid to the institution through regular mail.
7) A
coach cannot be present when a PSA signs a NLI off campus.
8) A
coach or institutional representative cannot hand deliver a NLI to a PSA
at an off campus site.
9) A
PSA can receive a NLI while on campus for an official visit.
10) Dead
periods occur during the 48 hours prior to 7 am on the initial date for
the fall signing period
