Charles A. Cannon Athletic Complex
All practices, some
dryland work and all meets are held in the Charles A.
Cannon Complex Natatorium on the Campus of Wingate
University. This facility was built in 1986 and houses a six-lane, 25-yard competition style pool that is shared
with the general University population as well as the
community through memberships. Deckside seating allows
about 75 spectators to watch the Bulldog swimmers in
action. A spacious patio area adjoins the pool area and
allows recreational swimmers sunbathing opportunities or
a place to sit and visit pool side. Other dryland work is
done at the new athletic weight room at the Belk Stadium Field House on campus. The natatorium also houses
the office of aquatics director and head swim coach, Kirk Sanocki.
In August, 1999,
the natatorium underwent a little facelift. The interior
of the pool was completely refurbished, a new state of
the art filtration system was installed, improvements
were made to both the men's and women's locker rooms (a
work in progress) and "artwork" was added to
the walls of the natatorium by talented "hobby"
artist and Wingate University graduate, Missy Rickards. A fine arts (graphic design) major from
Salisbury, Md., Rickards also played designated hitter for
the 1999 SAC champion Wingate University softball team. Rickards
completed the original work during the summer of
1999. We appreciate her creativity and fantastic work!
The Bulldogs practice and compete in the six-lane, 25-yard
Cannon Athletic Complex Natatorium. The swimming facility is utilized for
athletic events, lesson, classes and recreation. The natatorium also houses
the office of aquatics director and head women's swimming coach Kirk Sanocki.
